New TALQ certification enables the seamless integration of existing lighting and smart city networks into modern management systems
8 May 2026 – With the certified iCiti TALQ app, the iSOC and iSOC-S intelligent edge controllers are now available as fully-fledged TALQ gateways in accordance with version 2.7.0. The systems thus offer a future-proof solution for cities, local authorities and operators of smart city infrastructures who wish to efficiently integrate existing networks into modern Central Management Systems (CMS).
As the first true embedded TALQ gateways, iSOC and iSOC-S connect existing LON networks directly to TALQ-enabled management platforms via both powerline communication in accordance with EN 14908-3 and modern wireless mesh technologies. The solution thus lays the foundation for cross-vendor control and monitoring of a wide variety of applications in urban areas.
“TALQ certification is an important milestone for our platform. Operators benefit from maximum interoperability, significantly simplified system integration and the freedom to select CMS and device manufacturers independently of one another,” said Matthias Lürkens, Chief Technical Officer and authorised signatory at iCiti GmbH.

Open standard for maximum flexibility
The TALQ standard has established itself internationally as the central interface for managing intelligent outdoor lighting and smart city applications. Thanks to this certification, iSOC and iSOC-S can be seamlessly integrated into existing and new TALQ-compliant ecosystems. This reduces integration effort, avoids vendor lock-in and facilitates the long-term expansion of smart city infrastructures.
Powerful edge controllers for a wide range of applications
The Intelligent Server Open City (iSOC) is available in two housing variants and serves as a powerful edge controller for demanding control and automation tasks. The integrated software framework acts as a universal management tool for LON, M-Bus, Modbus, BACnet and other fieldbuses. This allows a wide variety of systems and devices – wired or wireless – to be centrally managed, configured and controlled.
Typical areas of application include:
- Street and building-related lighting
- Car parks, bus stops and railway stations
- Company premises and warehouses
- Sports facilities
- Other smart city applications
Technical highlights
The platform is based on powerful Raspberry Pi Compute Modules (CM3+ or CM4) with Broadcom quad-core 64-bit processors and offers extensive communication options.
Key features include:
- Certified TALQ app for TALQ 2.7.0
- Support for LON, M-Bus, Modbus, BACnet and other fieldbuses
- Ethernet, USB, RS-485 and RS-232 interfaces
- Expandability for narrowband and broadband powerline as well as ISM radio technologies
- Direct connection of LON interfaces and I/O modules via the DIN-rail system bus (iSOC)
- Robust edge computing platform for smart city and building applications
- Two-year warranty
With TALQ certification, iSOC and iSOC-S underline their status as open and future-proof integration platforms for modern smart city projects and intelligent lighting networks.
